Week 60 Arizona

Hey mama,

I'm super sorry about Karin. I know that that must be really hard. I wish I could be there for you. I hope you are doing okay. I can't wait to come home and be with you. This last week I started the dreaded D&C countdown. When you have 138 days left as a missionary you start read the Doctrine and Covenants backwards and so its a countdown. I read section 134 this morning.

This week I gave a training about removing rebellion from ourselves so that the people we act like can match up with the people that we really are. I'll send you my notes.

Rebellion

Brigham Young said: “The greatest lesson you can learn is to know
yourselves. … You have to come here to learn this. … No being can
thoroughly know himself, without understanding more or less of the
things of God; neither can any being learn and understand the things
of God without knowing himself: he must know himself, or he never can
know God.”

Lion King Background

His father appears to him and warns him: “You have forgotten who you
are and so have forgotten me. Look inside yourself, Simba. You are
more than what you have become. You must take your place in the circle
of life.” Then this invitation is repeated several times: “Remember
who you are. … Remember who you are.”

Psychology

Who we are effects our beliefs, our beliefs effect our thoughts and our thoughts effect our actions and our beliefs, thoughts and actions create our identity~ or the person that we look like

Who are you?
Beliefs
Thoughts
Actions
Identity

WHO ARE YOU??

Children of God

So are all of our beliefs, thoughts, and actions that of of a child of God?

So what is keeping us from being a child of God 100% of the time?

pride, we are choosing to not act like children of God

C. S. Lewis said, “As long as you are proud you cannot know God.” When we choose to do wrong even when we know better we are rebelling.

16 And now, my brethren, if our brethren seek to destroy us, behold, we will hide away our swords, yea, even we will bury them deep in the earth, that they may be kept bright, as a testimony that we have never used them, at the last day; and if our brethren destroy us, behold, we shall go to our God and shall be saved.
Alma 24:16

Now Elders and Sisters, we are going to take a few minutes and think about what are some of your personal weapons of rebellion. Y'all have 4 minutes to think about this and write it on your paper, and when you are done we are going to send these weapons to be buried in the depths of the City of Phoenix Land Fill.

This week we got to do something really cool. The church has made this service website called justserve.org. It's brand new so its only in 5 cities right now, but its gonna roll out as soon as some of the bugs are worked out. But anyways it a site to make it so that people who want to give service can get hooked up with service opportunities. On Saturday, we did our first service project through the site.We went and cleaned out some allies with the city of Phoenix's parks and recreations department. It was super fun, and we only found one syringe. It was really cool.

I love you
Ashley
